Gerry Nosowska
Trainer

“If the facts change, change your mind.”

Gerry is passionate about helping children, adults, young people and families by making sure social workers are supported to do good work. She enjoys helping busy front-line practitioners find a space to reflect deeply on their work — on how to make more out of every encounter with people, even when working with less. Reconnecting with what we do and why we do it, Gerry loves to spark lively conversations and quiet and thoughtful moments as practitioners tap into their innate motivation and emotional wisdom, drawing on this to constantly improve in their work.

Currently the Chair of the British Association of Social Workers, Gerry is a registered social worker, qualified in 2002. She began her Local Authority career in front-line hospital discharge. She then worked in a multi-disciplinary Intermediate Care team supporting adults to avoid unnecessary hospital admission alongside working in the city-wide out-of-hours emergency duty team. Gerry regularly writes for Research in Practice for Adults.

‘But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive; for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.’ (George Eliot, Middlemarch)
